The former Indian captain MS Dhoni was the most successful Indian captain and wicket keeper batsmen.He is well known for his captaincy ,wicket keeping skills and decision making. Moreover he is a lovable person due to his good character and great personality.
Ms Dhoni full name Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He was born on 7 july 1981(age 36) in Ranchi, Jharkhand. Early Dhoni's family family before his birth lived in a village called Lvali is in the Lamgarha block of the Almora district of Uttarakhand. Later they moved from Uttarakhand to Ranchi where his father Pan Singh worked in junior management positions in MECON. Coming to his family Dhoni has a sister Jayanti Gupta and a brother Narendra Singh Dhoni. Dhoni studied at DAV ,Jawahar Vidya Mandir,Shyamli, Ranchi where he initially initially excelled in badminton and football and was selected at district and club level in these sports. Dhoni was a goal keeper for his football team where he sent to play cricket by his football coach. Dhoni impressed everyone with his wicket keeping skills and became the regular wicket keeper at the commando cricket club(1995-1998).later he was picked in 1997-98 season Vinoo Mankad under -16 championship and he performed well. After his 10th standard Dhoni focused on his game and performed well in tournaments. Then he got offer as a ticket collector job in Indian railways under south eastern railway in Midnapor, West Bengal , His colleagues praises him as a honest, straight forwarded employee of the Indian railway.
Later,he left the job to concentrate on his game. He was picked in junior cricket Bihar by Deval Shahay to play the central coal limited(CCL) team. Dhoni showed some of his hard hitting skills and promoted up in batting order. He grabbed the opportunity and scored centuries. Everyone was impressed with his play. Deval Shahay impressed by Dhoni's batting skills helped him to play for Dihar ranji team. Dhoni made his Ranji trophy debut for Dihar in 1999-2000 season as an eighteen year old. He made half century in his debut match scoring 68* in the second innings against Assam cricket team. Dhoni finished the season with 283 runs in 5 matches. Dhoni scored his first class maiden century against Bengal in 2000-01 in a loosing cause. Later he also played for Jarkhand Ranji team in 2002-03 season including three half centuries. He scored two half centuries in the Deodhar trophy as he started gaining recognition for his low order and hard hitting batting skills. Later he played in Deodhar and Duleep trophy where he had performed well and scored runs for his teams.
But he was discovered via the BCCI's small town talent spotting initiative TRDW. Dhoni was discovered by TRDO prakash Poddar, captain of Bengal in the 1960's, when he saw Dhoni play for Jarkhand at a match in Jamshedpur 2003, and sent a report to the national cricket Academy. Dhoni was selected for India A squad in tour of Zimbabwe and Kenya. Against Zimbabwe he showed his best wicket keeping skills with the 7 catches and 4 stumpings in the match. Later he scored one half century and two back to back century against Pakistan A in tri series which include Kenya. Then he was picked in India team in tour of Bangladesh in 2004-05. Dhoni did not have a great start to his ODI career , getting run out for a duck on debut. Inspite of poor series against Bangladesh Dhoni was picked for the Pakistan ODI series. Dhoni scored his maiden century(148 off 123 balls) against Pakistan in second match of the sreies in Vishakhapatnam.
Dhoni's 148 surpassed the record of highest score by Indian wicket keeper. Later Dhoni played a crucial knock of 183 runs in chasing of huge target 299 against Sri Lanka and win the game for the country. He was awarded the man of the series in the series against Sri Lanka with 346 runs. In Dec 2005 , Dhoni was rewarded by a B-grade contract by the BCCI ,Later he did not get well performed in 2007 ICC world cup and disappointed our people with lose against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in group stages.
But he came back with good performance. Later he was rewarded with A-grade contract by BCCI. He also elected as captain of team India for Inagural season of ICC T20 world cup 2007. India became champions of Inagural season of ICC world T20 cup beating their rivalry Pakistan team in finals by a thrilling margin of 5 runs. Dhoni achieved many records as a captain that he is the first captain to make win series against Australia in their country.
The unforgettable moment is winning ICC world cup after 28 years against Sri Lanka finishing the match with a remarkable six by Dhoni . It is a proud moment for every Indian to witness the great victory by unbeatable fight by Dhoni (91*) and Gautham Gambhir (97). Winning world cup by a tremendous six by Dhoni became one of the best moments in cricket history. Later he also won 2013 ICC champions trophy beating England in their country in final and became the first captain to win all ICC events. He played 2015 world cup finishing as semi finalist. Later he retired from test cricket in 2014 and handed over his captaincy to Virat Kohli and later he only played in limited over format. But after some loses Dhoni stepped down from captaincy from all formats in 2017 and Virat became the new captain of Indian team. Dhoni is still part of a team India as a wicket keeper batsmen.
